These classes are a great introduction to hand building and sculptural techniques in clay.
The course includes hand building using coiling and slabs, techniques that can be applied to making anything from domestic ware such as cups and vases to sculptural objects such as clocks, models of animals or architecturally inspired pieces. Also included is portraiture in clay, where you will hone your observation skills by working from a model.
A variety of decorating and glazing techniques are also covered, which will help to bring your work into the full vibrancy of life. The classes culminate with an exciting outdoor raku firing, a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with the transformative power of fire - watch your work glow red hot and the glaze liquify before your eyes! The final three weeks are dedicated to a
personal project which you can develop using your new found skills.
Class sizes are small, affording everyone one to one time and individual attention from the teacher. Participants are encouraged to explore their creativity in a fun and relaxing environment. A perfect way to unwind after work or something different to do with friends.
The classes are suitable for beginner and intermediate levels. They are also perfect as professional development for primary and secondary school art teachers. Classes run for 10 weeks and the cost includes all
materials, firings, snacks and refreshments. All tools and equipment
provided.
